If you listened to episode 004 of The Couch Potato Podcast, you heard me rant about the fact I have been waiting for the release of the Nexus One (Google’s Android powered cell phone currently offered as a package deal on T-Mobile) or the HTC Incredible (another Android phone, similar to Nexus One, but with a few more bells and whistles including 6 GB of flash memory compared to 512 on the Nexus and an 8 megapixel camera) to hit the Verizon Wireless marketplace. I could get the Mororola Droid, but I played with one and I really didn’t like it. According to internet rumors (and believe me, I know better than to believe internet rumors) the phone was to be released on March 23rd. While it was just a rumor, it made sense because the CTIA conference was going on in Vegas. What better way to make a splash? Well, one of several things happened. I am guessing that either, they were scared away by the talk of a new 4G phone, or the rumors were simply that, rumors. Perhaps the phone just wasn’t’ ready to go for technical reasons. Perhaps Verizon is trying to increase the anticipation to increase the buzz. Well, whatever the reason, I am really pissed now because there’s a new player in the game. Apparently, there is now more to substantiate another long time rumor that the iPhone is coming to Verizon Wireless, too. According to THIS SITE, the phone is to be released sometime before the end of 2010. Yes, another rumor. SHOCKER! What to do, what to do? Now I hear HERE that the Nexus One is coming out within the next 5-7 days.Yes, another rumor.

If you listened to the podcast, you heard Joe try to get me to switch providers. I would have to pay a pretty hefty early termination fee and I’m not really ready to do that. I actually think Verizon has one of the better coverage areas and to me has been VERY reliable and has taken good care of me as a customer for over 20 years (dating back to when they were called Airtouch Cellular here in Southern California). So realistically, switching to a new provider is just not going to happen. I guess, like all things techie, there’s always something newer coming along. So now, Verizon, the ball is in your court. I want a new phone. You’ve got me by the short and curlies. Either I switch to a new provider with less coverage and pay you a butt load of money, or stay with you and get whatever phone comes out first. SO, Verizon Wireless, as the ol’ saying goes, “$h@t or get off the pot” and gimme a cool, new phone!
